Application Overview

This document provides a complete overview of the questions you will be required to answer in order to complete and submit the 2025 Daniel K. Inouye Innovation Award Online Application Form. Please DO NOT submit your application via email. Applications will only be accepted through our online submission form.

Eligibility Details 

  • Only Maui County public school students in grades 6-12 and those who graduated from high school in 2025 are eligible to apply. 
  • Projects must have been completed during the 2024-25 school year or summer 2025. 
  • Students are welcome to submit projects completed as part of a school course or independently, including work for a school assignment, club, or internship. 
  • Individual students and teams of up to 5 students can apply. 
  • Submissions will only be accepted using the online form linked above. Please do not email submissions. 
  • Forms must be submitted by 11:59pm on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Long Answer Questions: 

  1. Project Introduction - Provide an introduction to your project, including the primary objectives and your team’s motivations for undertaking the project.  
  1. Project Process - Describe your team’s process in completing the project. How did you come up with the project idea and design? How long did the project take to complete? Did your team encounter any major challenges that you had to overcome? 
  1. STEM Content - What STEM skills, knowledge, and/or tools were required to develop and complete the project? Did your team have to do research and/or learn new skills in order to complete the project? 
  1. Project Outcome - What were the outcomes of the project? Were your primary objectives achieved? 
  1. Community Service - How is your project designed to provide a service to your community? What community concern does your project address?  
  1. Supplemental Materials (the online form will allow for file uploads) - Provide at least one photo of the finished project. Only one photo is required. Optionally, you may upload additional photos and supporting documents related to your project here as well (such as a research paper, presentation slides, video, works cited or bibliography, lab report, etc.). These additional materials are not required but may make your submission more competitive.
